A man has been arrested for the murder of Young Dolph.

Recall that the 36-year-old rapper was shot dead on November 17 in Memphis, and now Rolling Stone reports that police took the suspect—23-year-old Justin Johnson, a rapper who performed under the name Straight Drop—into custody Tuesday afternoon in Indiana.

The authorities announced on Wednesday, January 5, that they had issued a warrant against Johnson for first-degree murder. They added that Johnson had an outstanding warrant for violating his supervised release in an unrelated federal weapons case.

Rolling Stone returned later with an update, saying that another suspect – Cornelius Smith, 32, was also arrested and was indicted today on first-degree murder, weapons possession, and theft charges.

We can’t wait to see how this pans out.

[SPORTS] AFCON 21: Nigeria down Egypt 1-0

LEICHESTER UNITED, IHEANACHO, PREMIER LEAGUE, SUPER EAGLE, NIGERIA

Kelechi Iheanacho struck a superb volley in the first half to give Nigeria a much deserved 1-0 win over Egypt in the opening Group D clash of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Three-time champions Nigeria dominated the game in Garoua and shot ahead on the half hour mark after Iheanacho collected Joe Aribo’s knockdown and rifled into the top corner to set the stadium alight.

Egypt’s two-time African player of the year Mo Salah was largely contained as the Eagles played an expansive game to the delight of their colourful fans in the stadium and across the border in Nigeria.

With the victory, Nigeria move top of the group temporarily, ahead of the other tie between Guinea Bissau and Sudan.

[NEWSFEED] Sanwo-Olu commissions elderly care centre in Epe

POLITICS, SANWO OLU,

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Care Centre in Oke-Owode, Epe, built by the Thani-Oladunjoye family, just as he reiterated the need to cater for the vulnerable and the elderly in society.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the facility is a modern architectural edifice and the first of its kind in Lagos State, expressing his delight for being part of the epoch-making event for the people of the ancient town of Epe.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, said the majority of Lagosians have refused to come to the reality that some of these elderly people had contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of the society during their prime.

He stressed that the onus is on the people to care for the elderly by focusing on issues affecting them, adding that every individual will age and require the support of the younger generation at some point in life.

In his words: “This is a bold step in re-writing our history as a people and changing the undesirable narrative of our lack of desire to adequately take care of our elderly population”.

“Those of you that are very familiar with me can attest to the fact that at every opportunity, especially at events like this, I’ve always canvassed that nowhere in the world can government alone meet the needs of the people or its citizens. Hence, the need to encourage partnership with high networth individuals, corporate organisations and non-governmental agencies to ensure the welfare of the citizens”.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu further appreciated the promoter of the Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Centre, stating that such a laudable gesture would go a long way in complementing the efforts of the Lagos State Government in the area of social welfare development in the State.

He reaffirmed that his government would not rest on its oars in making sure the pain of the less privileged, especially the elderly population in Lagos State, is ameliorated, urging the good people of Lagos State with financial capabilities to establish social infrastructure like the Thani-Oladunjoye family by instituting such projects in their communities across the State.

The Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Care Centre was established in memory of Late Pa Muhammed Nurudeen Alao Thani-Oladunjoye and Mama Sidikat Thani by the Thani-Oladunjoye family.

[NEWSFEED] European Parliament President, David Sassoli, is dead

The president of the European ,Parliament, David Sassoli, died early Tuesday in hospital in Italy, his ,spokesman ,said on, Twitter.

The president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, died early Tuesday in hospital in Italy, his spokesman said on Twitter.

The 65-year-old Italian had been seriously ill in hospital for more than two weeks due to a dysfunction of his immune system.

“David Sassoli passed away at 1.15 am on 11 January at the CRO in Aviano, Italy, where he was hospitalized,” his spokesman Roberto Cuillo tweeted.

“The date and place of the funeral will be communicated in the next few hours.”

The former television news reader had been in hospital since December 26 due to “a serious complication due to a dysfunction of the immune system,” Cuillo had said on Monday, announcing the cancellation of Sassoli’s official activities.

Sassoli was previously admitted with pneumonia for several weeks last September.

The European Parliament sits for a five-year term between elections, but the president of the body serves for half that time.

Sassoli had already indicated that he would not seek re-election.

He was born on May 30, 1956, in Florence, Italy.

After a three-decade career as an Italian journalist, starting out in newspapers then moving to television and becoming a nationally known anchor, Sassoli, became a member of the European Parliament in 2009, and speaker in 2019.

He was a member of the centre-left Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, the second-biggest grouping in the parliament after the centre-right European People’s Party.

Although his role was that of speaker, he had the title of president of the European legislature. His arrival in the chamber was traditionally announced in Italian as “Il Presidente”.

Unlike some EU officials, who speak in English and French in public appearances, Sassoli had made a point of using Italian.

On Tuesday next week, MEPs are expected to hold the first round of voting for his successor.
